MRS. ANNA BOESE

Mrs. Anna (Goertz) Boese, daughter of Jacob and Anna Schmidt Goertz, was born Aug. 6, 1892, in McPherson County, Kansas.

She received her public school training in the former Hochfeld school. Being the second oldest child of the family, she with her parents faced the trying experience of making a living in those early pioneer days.

She was baptized upon confession of faith in her Saviour Jesus Christ after having received catechetical instruction. Rev. Heinrich Banman baptized her and received her into the Alexanderwohl church on June 4,1911. She transferred her membership to the Goessel church in 1923.

On June 20, 1923, she was united in marriage to Jacob Boese with whom she shared life's joys and sorrows for over 28 years. Death took her husband Oct. 29, 1951. To this union were born three sons and one daughter.

The departed mother faced many trying experiences. However, she always did her work cheerfully and courageously, knowing that the Lord blesses and rewards even the most simple services. In addition to the many tasks that a mother has to perform in the rearing of children, she also took care of her two sisters-in-law, Susie and Sarah, for a period of 15 years, until their deaths. Susie passed away in 1932 and Sarah in 1956, the latter being in the Bethesda Home for a short period of time.

The departed was a kind and affectionate mother, seeking the welfare of her children and grandchildren and taking an interest in their problems. While she lived there was always a place where we would be welcome, where we would be met with a smile, and a place where we would be sure of a friend.

She enjoyed good health until the last year of her life when she became very ill with cancer. She accepted her illness patiently and frequently expressed to her children, friends and pastor her complete trust in the leading of God. The Lord delivered her from her suffering in the early morning of Oct. 22, 1957. She reached the age of 85 years, two months and 16 days.

Those who mourn her death are: Arthur and wife Ann of Canton, Kan., Irvin [sic Irwin] and wife Edma [sic Ednah] of Goessel, Kan., Johnny and Martha of the home at Canton; two grandchildren; two sisters, Marie Goertz of Canton, and Mrs. Valentine Funk of Lehigh, Kan.; one brother, Henry Goertz of Canton; two brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews. (One brother and one half-sister preceded her in death.)

“Hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.” (Rev. 3:12)

Funeral services were held in the Goessel Mennonite Church Oct. 25, 1957, in charge of the pastor, Rev. Leo Miller, assisted by Rev. P. A. Wedel. A preliminary service was held in the Miller Funeral Home at Goessel.
