MARIA BERGMANN

Mrs. Maria Bergmann, of Virgil, Ontario, went to be with our risen Lord in her seventy-seventh year, on Easter Sunday, April 14, 1968. She had been in failing health for several years.

Maria Bergmann (nee Enns) was born in South Russia on August 15, 1891. She was orphaned in early childhood and was cared for by friends and relatives. In her youth she accepted Christ as her personal Saviour. She followed the Lord in baptism in 1907 and became a member of the Mennonite Brethren Church. During the difficult year of 1921 she was married to John P. Bergmann. The Lord blessed their union with five children, two of whom deceased in early childhood. Emigrating to Canada in 1924 they made their home in Hochfeld (near Winkler), then later at Poplar Point, Manitoba. In 1941 they moved to Ontario where they settled near Niagara-on-the-Lake and later in Virgil.

She leaves to mourn, her blind husband, John P. Bergmann; 2 daughters, Martha and Mary, who have tenderly cared for her; one son, Walter with his wife, Helen; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services were held in the Virgil Mennonite Brethren Church with the Rev. J. G. Baerg and Rev. F. J. Wiens officiating. Burial was in the Niagara Lake Shore Cemetery.
