ABE VICTOR BERGMAN

Abe Victor Bergman was born to Henry and Helen Bergman, at that time at Ste Anne, Manitoba, on October 9, 1958. He spent his first four years there, when his parents moved to Blumenort where Abe attended elementary and junior high schools. He graduated from the Steinbach Regional Secondary School in 1977. Abe was fond of the outdoors, and from early childhood spent many hours with his father and brother fishing, hunting and hiking. He had a special love for music, playing several instruments and particularly the guitar. He enjoyed making things and at the time of his death was employed in a canoe-making firm.

At the age of eight he accepted Christ as his Saviour and regularly attended Sunday school and church for a number of years. His spiritual life left much to be desired, however, and was a matter of grave concern, especially to his family. Many prayers were offered on his behalf and the family finds comfort in the hope that like the thief on the cross, he may have stretched out his hand for forgiveness in the final moments of his life. Abe died accidentally in a house fire on December 31. He was a little more than 20. Left to treasure his memory are his parents; two sisters, Hedy, at home, and Caroline (Mrs. Earl) Unger of Steinbach; one brother, Robert; as well as his maternal and paternal grand mothers and numerous relatives. A joint funeral service with the family of the late Bruce Duerksen was held Thursday, January 4, from the Steinbach Mennonite Brethren Church, with Jake Falk and Corny Rempel ministering. Over 800 people attended, many of them high school friends and young people.
