text of obituary:
Bechtel. — Samuel B. Bechtel, son of David H. and Mary B. Bechtel was born August 7, 1854, and died on Jan. 7, 1917, of cerebral apoplexy, aged 62 years and 5 months. In 1872 he was baptized by the late Rev. Christian Clemmer and received into the Hereford Mennonite church in which he remained a member until his death. In 1880 he was married to Katie Bahr, to which union was born one daughter, Elsie, who with great self-denial cared for both her father and stepmother in their time of failing health in the last few years of their life. After six years of married life he was called upon to mourn the early death of his beloved wife. In 1892 he was united in marriage a second time to Elmyra Rohrbach. This union was blessed with three children, one daughter who died in infancy and two sons, Norman and Wilbur who are just old enough to realize that home bereft of both father and mother is no longer home. The mother was laid away a little over two months ago. He was laid to rest beside the mothers of his three children on Jan. 12 in the sympathetic presence of many friends and relatives in the Union cemetery at Bally, his pastor, D. J. Brand, officiating. Texts: II Cor. 4:7 and Jer. 29:11.
