REV. HENRY GEORGE BARTSCH

Late husband of Anna (nee Funk) Bartsch, father of Erna, Lydia, Arthur and Karl, born Sparrau, Russia, Dec. 17, 1896, son of pious farming parents. At age 18, in 1915, called into government service as Red Cross stretcher bearer. Following World War I care of family and home placed on him. Migrated to Canada in 1923, settling in Dalmeny, Sask. area where he met future wife, Anna Funk, married 1928. Followed call to foreign missions, left for Congo 1931 after ordination in Winnipeg, February 15, 1931. World War II interrupted work, returned to Canada 1942. Settled in Yarrow, taking active part in preaching, radio ministry and Bible school teaching. Began Christian life while under sentence of death at hands of Russian revolutionaries. Baptised on faith in Mennonite Brethren Church at Sparrau, 1922. Remained faithful until death on Dec. 23, 1966. His last words were: "All is well. Anything that I have done amiss. It is all well." He leaves a sorrowing widow, his sons and daughters and their families.
