Pioneer Washington Resident Called

Colfax, Wash. — Mrs. Phoebe Aeschliman, widow of the late Rev. P. R. Aeschliman, died at her home near the Mennonite church here on Sept. 9, 1950, at the age of 85 years, seven months and 25 days. She was found in her rocking chair soon after she had passed away from a heart attack.

A pioneer resident here, she was born in Pulaski, Iowa on Jan. 14, 1865, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Diefenbach. She was married to Paul Aeschliman in Iowa and they came to Colfax and purchased a farm near Onecho. Mr. Aeschliman was ordained to the ministry at the Mennonite church here and served the church as pastor for 44 years. Upon his retirement he became pastor emeritus until his death on March 19, 1938.

Rev. P. D. Unruh and Earl Shoup conducted the final rites for Mrs. Aeschliman and interment was made in the Colfax cemetery.

She is survived by a son, Rupert, of Onecho; a daughter, Mrs. Lynn Wright of LaGrande, Oregon; a brother, Phillip Diefenbach of Nampa, Idaho; and six grandchildren. "Aunt Phoebe" as she was known and loved by many, was a faithful church member and attended services regularly to the last. She was deeply interested in her church and in religious work. Many relatives and friends mourn her passing.
