Oral History Recordings - Use and Copying Policy

No original tapes may be used for research and reference; only copies may be used. If a copy of a tape does not exist, the researcher requesting it will need to wait until a copy is made.
We will continue to make copies of tapes for family members for a small fee. We prefer to make a CD copy of an original tape, rather than a cassette.
If there is a release for an interview, we will make a CD to loan to a researcher. If a transcript is available, it will be photocopied for a researcher, at our regular photocopying charges.
If there is no release for an interview, the interview and transcript may be used in the library only. However, interviews recorded before 1975 lacking releases will be treated as if they had releases and thus fall under #3 above.
If a release was refused for an interview, the interview is closed to research.
Interview audio files and transcripts will not be posted to our web site unless the interview subject is deceased.
Our understanding is that copyright in most of these interviews extends for the life of the interviewee plus 70 years, but we can make no guarantees about copyright. The researcher is responsible for any copyright issues that arise out of their use of these oral history interviews.
